Skin Surgery

Skin surgery covers the diagnostic and therapeutic removal of skin and subcutaneous lesions, from benign cysts and lipomas to suspicious moles and confirmed skin cancers.

When this procedure is used

  • Suspicious moles and skin lesions requiring biopsy
  • Basal cell, squamous cell and other skin cancers
  • Sebaceous cysts and lipomas
  • Symptomatic or cosmetically concerning skin lumps

What to expect

Assessment

Clinical examination, photographic documentation and discussion of margins, scar position and histology plan.

The procedure

Most lesions are removed under local anaesthetic as a day case. Larger or deeper lesions may require sedation or general anaesthetic.

Recovery

Simple wound care with sutures removed at 7–14 days. Histology and any further management are reviewed at follow-up.
