Hernia Repair
Hernia repair restores the abdominal wall and prevents complications such as obstruction or strangulation. Repair technique is tailored to the hernia type, size, prior surgery and patient factors.

When this procedure is used
- Inguinal (groin) hernias
- Umbilical and epigastric hernias
- Incisional and recurrent hernias
- Femoral and other abdominal wall hernias
What to expect
Assessment
Clinical examination, imaging where required, and discussion of open versus laparoscopic approach with or without mesh.
The procedure
Performed under general or regional anaesthetic. Mesh reinforcement is commonly used to lower recurrence risk.
Recovery
Many repairs are day-case or short-stay. Return to office work within 1–2 weeks; heavier activity gradually over 4–6 weeks.
